Immigration Enforcement Webinar and Resources for Apartment Managers
As federal immigration enforcement activity continues in Chicago, it is important for property managers to have an understanding of the authority that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have to enter public and private areas of a building or community areas. Earlier this year, CAA conducted a webinar on proper procedures and best practices for managers when addressing immigration. The webinar can be viewed here.
Additionally, the National Apartment Association (NAA) has released a member resource page to provide housing providers with general information on how to interact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents (ICE) if their property is involved in enforcement activity. Through this page, apartment managers are able to find information on the following topics:
- Commercial Property Owners Right to Privacy
- Understanding Residents’ Rights
- Differences Between Civil and Criminal Arrest
- Identifying Warrants
- Immigration Status and Residential Screenings
- Implications for HUD-Assisted Housing
- Employer Considerations
- Housing Providers: Know Your Rights
- Frequently Asked Questions
This member resource page will continue to be updated as the situation evolves. Please note that this is not a substitute for legal or operational advice, and the National Apartment Association (NAA) recommends contacting qualified legal counsel regarding ICE enforcement activities specific to your properties.
