CAAPAC Supports Pat Hynes for Cook County Assessor

Posted By: Jon Kozlowski Advocacy News,

The property tax system in Cook County is broken. It’s time for a change. That’s why CAAPAC supports Pat Hynes for Cook County Assessor and we urge CAA members to vote for Pat in the Democratic Primary Election on March 17.

Apartment owners, managers and builders consistently cite huge property tax increases and wildly unpredictable assessments among the biggest challenges they face in providing quality rental housing to the residents of Cook County. Assessment errors, misclassifications, and delayed tax bills have become all too common. Commercial taxpayers are pitted against homeowners, and apartment owners are accused of “not paying their fair share.” Many developers eager to invest here are unable to take on the risk associated with the current dysfunctional system.

The real estate, business and labor communities are united behind supporting new leadership in the Cook County Assessor’s office. Pat Hynes has the understanding and experience to deliver a system that works. As Assessor of Lyons Township, he’s a proven leader with technical expertise and a record of collaboration and accountability. He is committed to modernizing the office, leveraging technology responsibly, and working with apartment owners and investors to ensure property tax predictability and stability.
