Since 2007 the National Apartment Association and its affiliates have actively worked on ways to deal with the resurgence of bed bugs with an emphasis on education of landlords, their staff, tenants and government. Printed in the 2011 Q4 issue of Apt.Itudes is NAA's response to HUD's Bed Bug Guidance document. Locally CAA continues to be proactive in education on bed bugs hosting regular sessions for our members and guests. Sessions include pest management operators, entomologists as well as practical hands on experience by property owners and managers.

Why CAA supported Public Act PA 96-1330

In meetings with State legislators CAA urged that a task Force be formed to examine the opportunities for public education. PA 96 -1330 states that it is in the public interest to study the increase in infestations and to make specific recommendations for addressing the growing public nuisance and to report back to the General Assembly specifically on prevention, management and infestation control.

Judith Roettig, CAA EVP was appointed by the governor to serve on the Task Force as the landlord representative.

The final task force meeting was held September 1, 2011. Judy provided testimony on CAA's behalf. Meeting minutes and testimony are provided below. Unfortunately, CAA dissented from the final report sent to legislators.
